A letter from Stephen Kelly, Founder of Cadence Partner

Building a business is harder than most people let on.

I dropped out of university on day one.

I was meant to study robotics and AI. I sat in that lecture theatre, looked around, and knew it wasn't right. So I left. No plan. No backup. Just a feeling that I needed to figure it out a different way.

Most people thought that was a mistake.

I grew up in North Wales. Before that, Botswana, where my dad worked for the government and my mum was a nurse. I was brought up to work hard and get on with it. So that's what I did. I taught myself content creation through hundreds of hours on YouTube. I built a travel Instagram shooting photos across Europe. I got really good at shooting content. Good enough that Primark, HP, Santander and DPD trusted me to create content for them.

But I kept hitting the same wall.

Clients would leave. Not because the work was bad. Because they couldn't measure it. And if they can't measure it, they can't justify it. That hurt. Because I knew the content was working. I just couldn't prove it in a way that mattered to them.

So I did something about it.

I spent tens of thousands of pounds learning paid ads. Running campaigns. Failing. Learning. Running them again. Until I understood exactly how content and ads work together, and what happens when you build them as one system instead of two separate things. That's when everything changed.

That's when Cadence was born.

But Cadence isn't just a marketing agency. It's what happens when someone who has actually built things, run things, and felt the pressure of keeping things going decides to use everything they've learned to help other businesses grow.

I run an independent business myself. I helped co-found Coastline Run Club here in North Wales in August 2025. hundreds of members, over a thousand followers, council recognition, local brand partnerships. I know what it takes to build something people care about, because I'm doing it alongside the businesses I work with.

I also know the hard parts. The slow months. The moments you question everything. The feeling that you're working harder than ever and still not moving fast enough. I've been there. I'm still in it.

That's why I started Cadence.

Not to manage your social media. To actually grow your business. To understand what you've built, tell it properly, and get it in front of the people who need to hear it. Most small businesses are far better than their social media suggests. They just haven't had the time, the headspace, or the right person in their corner yet.

That's what we're here for.

We win when you win. That's the whole point.

Stephen
